Offenburg University has been offering German scholarships since the 2011/12 winter semester. That year, 13 scholarships were awarded; meanwhile, as many as 29 students annually benefit from the funding.
The scholarship supports students with 300 euros per month and is awarded as a grant that does not have to be repaid. The prerequisite for the grant is enrollment at Hochschule Offenburg. As a rule, funding is granted for two semesters and can be extended within the standard period of study.
Selection criteria are, among others, special academic achievement and talent, proven for first-year students with the grades of their university entrance qualification and for current students at Hochschule Offenburg by the ECTS credits achieved so far, average grade and number of semesters. In addition to academic performance, it is also possible to take into account applicants' special achievements, awards, previous professional activity, extracurricular commitment such as voluntary work, social or political involvement, involvement in religious communities or non-profit associations, special personal or family circumstances such as illness and disabilities, caring for one's children, in particular as a single parent, or for a close relative in need, involvement in a family business, gainful employment during studies, family background or migration background.
The scholarship is income-independent and can be combined with BAföG funding. Double funding by other performance-related, material grants of talent-support organizations, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Foundation for the Advancement of Talented Young People in Vocational Education and Training, or by any national or international institution is excluded, unless the amount of this other funding is less than 30 euros per month. There is no legal entitlement to the DeutschlandStipendium.
