Who is eligible for funding?
The Deutschlandstipendium supports students of all nationalities at German universities whose careers to date indicate that outstanding academic performance can be expected. In addition to exceptional achievements at school and/or university, the funding criteria also include social commitment, for example in associations or higher-education politics, in church or political organizations, as well as involvement in their social environment or family or in a social institution.

How much is the scholarship worth?
The grant per scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month. It is independent of the students’ other income or their parents’. Half of the grant is covered by private sponsors, the other half by the federal government.

Does the Deutschlandstipendium replace BAföG support?
No. The Deutschlandstipendium is a supplement to BAföG.

What do private sponsors do?

Who can apply?

What are the selection criteria?
The Deutschlandstipendium supports students of all nationalities at German universities whose careers to date indicate that outstanding academic performance can be expected. In addition to exceptional achievements at school and/or university, the funding criteria also include social commitment, for example in associations or higher-education politics, in church or political organizations, as well as involvement in their social environment or family or in a social institution.

When is the next application period?
Applications can be submitted from 29 July to 25 August 2019.

How many scholarships will be awarded in the next round?
According to the StipG Sholarship Act, up to 61 scholarships can be awarded. Depending on the funds raised, the number of scholarships may vary each year.

Will there also be an application phase for the next summer semester?
No, Offenburg University only awards Deutschlandstipendiums for the winter semester.

How do I apply?
Please complete the application form, scan it, and submit it with all required documents by e-mail to: deutschlandstipendium-bewerbung@hs-offenburg.de. Please send all materials in one PDF file, not several files. A written application by post is not possible.

What is the time schedule of the selection process?
Applications are accepted during the advertised period. They are reviewed by the end of September, the selection committee meets in late October, and the final decisions are mailed out in mid-November.

If selected, for how long will I be funded?
Funding lasts at least two semesters and at maximum the standard time to degree. After each year of funding, it is reviewed whether the eligibility criteria are still fulfilled.

Are parallel scholarships possible?
This depends on the amount and type of scholarship funding. Students who already receive a performance-related grant in the amount of 30 euros or more per month on average, are not eligible for the Deutschlandstipendium. Scholarship holders of the "Begabtenförderungswerke" must forego material support if they wish to receive a Deutschlandstipendium. Parallel funding is therefore excluded.

Is the scholarship credited to BAföG?
No. The funds under BAföG and the Deutschlandstipendium are complementary programs. Students can take advantage of both funding opportunities at the same time without any deductions.

Does the grant have to be repaid?
No. In contrast to funding through BAföG, Deutschlandstipendiums do not have to be repaid.

Is the scholarship also paid during a semester of leave?
No. The scholarship cannot be paid out during leave semesters.
