Willkommen am ivESK
Da das „Internet der Dinge“ fast alle Bereiche des Lebens durchdringt, entwickeln wir die Grundlagen für eine sichere digitale Zukunft. Wir konzipieren und erproben drahtlose Echtzeit-Kommunikation, die zuverlässig funktioniert – vom autonomen Fahren bis zum Smart Home. In unseren Laboren prüfen wir diese Technik unter realen Bedingungen, damit die Vernetzung über den gesamten Produktlebenszyklus dauerhaft sicher bleibt.
Forschung
Das „Internet der Dinge" durchdringt die industriellen und persönlichen Anwendungen zunehmend. Zu diesen zählen beispielsweise Smart-Metering und Smart-Grid, Industrie- und Prozessautomation, Car-to-Car- beziehungsweise Car-to-X-Kommunikation, Heim- und Gebäudeautomation, Telehealth- und Telecare-Anwendungen und vieles mehr. Die drahtgebundene und drahtlose Vernetzung von Embedded Systemen und deren Anbindung als sogenannte cyberphysische Systems (CPS) spielen dabei eine immer wichtigere Rolle. Da immer mehr Systeme funktionskritische Aufgaben autonom übernehmen, gewinnen auch die Zuverlässigkeit und die funktionale Sicherheit immer mehr an Bedeutung. Entsprechend müssen Lösungen für die Datensicherheit (IT-Security) und die Privatsphäre (Privacy) von Menschen und Maschinen konzipiert und entwickelt werden.
Diesen Themen widmet sich das Institut für verlässliche Embedded Systems und Kommunikationselektronik (ivESK). Dabei stehen folgende Arbeitsgebiete im Zentrum der Aktivitäten:

AsimutE
Das Projekt AsimutE zielt darauf ab, gemeinschaftliche Strategien zur Energieeinsparung im Oberrheinraum zu entwickeln und dadurch den CO2-Fußabdruck zu reduzieren. Forscher und Ingenieure werden intelligente Lösungen erforschen, um den Energieverbrauch zu senken und die Speicherung zu optimieren, unter Berücksichtigung der Endnutzer.

Ausstattung
Das Labor verfügt über eine moderne Ausstattung an vernetzten Workstations und Servern, sowie Messelektronik, wie Funktionsgeneratoren, Oszilloskope oder Signal Analyzer.
An Hardware-Ausstattung stehen verschiedenste Development Boards für Mikrocontroller, Funktransceiver und Kommunikationseinheiten zur Verfügung.
An Software sind neben den gängigen Entwicklungswerkzeugen (Eclipse, GIT, Redmine) Volllizenzen für IAR Embedded Workbench, Keil µVision4, Perytons Network Sniffer und OPNET Network Simulator zu erwähnen. Für die Netzwerksimulation werden auch die quelloffenen Plattformen NS3 und OMNET++ eingesetzt.
Ein besonderes Alleinstellungsmerkmal ist das vollautomatisierte physische Testbed (APTB) für räumlich verteilte Funkknoten.
WFCS 2026
In 2026, Offenburg University has the great honor of hosting the 22nd International IEEE Conference on Factory Communication Systems (WFCS 2026). The WFCS is the only IEEE conference dedicated specifically to communication for industrial automation systems. It will take place in Offenburg for the first time.
