Your Paths Abroad
Semester of study at a partner university
Most of our students choose to study at one of our partner universities. Why? It’s simple: you won’t have to pay tuition fees at almost any of them. Plus, the International Office will help you with the planning. Funding through Erasmus+ is often particularly attractive, as it provides you with financial support.

How do I submit an application? Applications are processed through our International Office. You can find all the details about the process and funding on the intranet.
Freemover
Is your dream university not an official HSO partner? As a “free mover,” you can also organize your stay on your own. Keep in mind that you’ll generally have to pay tuition fees at the host university (usually between €2,000 and €10,000 per semester).
Short-term programs
Is a full semester too long for you, or does it not fit into your schedule right now? Then short-term programs are perfect for you—they’ll still give you a taste of life abroad. You can also do them in addition to a semester abroad or an internship abroad.
Where can I go? You can find the current offerings in our Moodle course.

Summer Schools
Typically, you’ll spend 2 to 4 weeks at a University abroad. The courses are either tailored to your major, offer general continuing education, or combine both. In most cases, you’ll complete the summer school with an exam. If you check with us beforehand, we may be able to grant you credit for this work toward your degree.
Erasmus+ Blended Short-Term / Intensive Programme
Here, you get the best of both worlds: You’ll spend 5 to 30 days studying abroad and also take part in a virtual program. The best part is: the Erasmus+ program provides financial support. For your participation, you’ll earn ECTS credits, which you can have applied toward your degree program after prior agreement.
Virtual Exchange - Online Exchange Formats
Our partner universities—particularly those within the European university alliance ChallengeEU—offer a variety of “Collaborative Online International Learning” (COIL) courses. Although these courses are conducted entirely online, they still provide you with valuable international experience and the opportunity to interact directly with students from all over Europe.
Internship abroad
An internship abroad is the perfect opportunity to gain experience in an international work environment. In addition to gaining valuable insights into the global professional world, you’ll discover new perspectives, improve your language and professional skills, and experience daily life in another country firsthand.
Good to know: All the details on planning, tips, and scheduling a personal consultation are available to our students on the intranet. You can get an initial overview of the Erasmus internship at the DAAD.
Thesis Abroad
Combine your bachelor's degree or master's thesis with a study abroad program. For more information, visit the intranet.
Double degrees
With a double degree, you’ll get the most out of your studies: By the end, you’ll have two degrees under your belt—one from HSO and one from our international partner university. Some programs even offer three degrees! An unbeatable advantage for launching your career.
