Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is a European Union funding program for education, youth, and sports. The overarching goal of the Erasmus+ program is to support the educational, professional, and personal development of people in the fields of general and vocational education, youth, and sports in Europe through lifelong learning, thereby contributing to sustainable growth, skilled jobs, social cohesion, the promotion of innovation, the strengthening of European identity, and active citizenship.
The program’s priorities for 2021–2027 are inclusion and diversity, digital transformation, the environment and combating climate change, as well as promoting participation in democratic life.
The 2021–2027 generation of the Erasmus+ program is divided into three program strands: support for mobility, support for higher education cooperation, and policy support. Hochschule Offenburg participates in the Erasmus+ program under Program Strand 1—Support for Mobility—and Program Strand 2—Support for Higher Education Cooperation.
Further information on the Erasmus+ program can be found on the website of the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation at the DAAD (NA DAAD) as well as on the NA DAAD YouTube channel.
Student Mobility - Outgoing in KA131
All students regularly enrolled at Hochschule Offenburg are eligible to participate. Funding of up to 12 months is available for each degree cycle (bachelor's degree/master's degree/PhD). This funding may be distributed across multiple stays (study and/or internships) as desired, provided that the minimum stay of two months (long-term mobility) or 5 days (blended short-term mobility) is met.
Study Abroad Programs
Erasmus+ students do not pay tuition fees at the host university, but administrative fees may apply. Applications for Erasmus+ study stays (long-term and blended short-term mobility) are submitted through the International Office, which also selects the participants. Information on the application process, including deadlines and required documents, as well as the link to the online application, can be found on the intranet. A list of Erasmus+ partner universities can be found here.
Please note that Erasmus+ funding is subject to the availability of funds, and there is no guarantee of funding or funding from a specific project year.

Travel Days
For the 2025–2026 project: Students who do not travel in an environmentally friendly (green) manner may apply for funding for up to two travel days. Students who cover more than 50% of their round-trip journey using an eco-friendly mode of transportation (train, bus, carpool) may apply for funding for a maximum of six travel days, provided that these days are actually necessary for the trip.
Extraordinary expenses for expensive travel
These costs will be approved provided that participants can demonstrate that the travel allowance (based on travel distance) does not cover at least 70% of the participant’s actual travel expenses.
If approved, the exceptional costs for expensive travel can cover up to 80% of the total travel costs. If the exceptional costs for expensive travel are approved, they replace the travel allowance.
Applications for exceptional travel costs must be submitted through the International Office and must be approved by the National Agency.
Internship abroad
Applications for the Erasmus+ internship grant are submitted online through the “Coordination Office for Practical Semesters at Universities of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg” (KOOR – Erasmus Services BW), which is based at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. All information regarding the Erasmus+ eligibility criteria, funding rates, and the application process can be found on the KOOR – Erasmus Services BW website.
Application Process
Please be sure to allow several weeks for the application process, as you will need to obtain signatures from Hochschule Offenburg and the internship provider, among other things.
The "Application Form," which is available for download after successful online registration with KOOR, must be signed by Dr. Alexander Burdumy for mandatory, voluntary, and graduate internships.
The "Learning Agreement," which is also available for download during the application process, is signed by the chair of the examination committee of the respective department for mandatory internships (Examination Committee Chairs: B+W, EMI, M+V, M).
For voluntary and graduate internships, the Learning Agreement is signed by the head of the internship office at the respective department (heads of internship offices: B+W, EMI, M+V, M).
For more information on the application process, please contact KOOR - Erasmus Services BW.
Financial support
Only physical periods of study are eligible for funding, with a maximum of 4.5 months (135 days) per mobility period. All information regarding financial support and its conditions (reimbursement of actual expenses for grantees with children, additional travel days, high-cost travel, sustainable travel, standard travel, cultural and language preparation) can be found on the KOOR - Erasmus Services BW
website. Erasmus+ funding cannot be combined with another DAAD scholarship, e.g., a PROMOS scholarship, or another EU scholarship.
Financial support for participants with fewer opportunities
Supplementary funding for students with fewer opportunities
The following students from underrepresented groups are eligible for additional financial support in the form of an increase in the scholarship rate (top-up) of 250.00 euros per month for long-term mobility and a one-time payment of 100.00 euros (for stays of 5–14 days) or 150.00 euros (for stays of 15–30 days) for blended short-term mobility.
First-generation college students: Students from a non-academic family background, i.e., neither parent nor primary caregiver holds a degree from a university, university of applied sciences, or vocational academy leading to a comparable qualification. This also applies to degrees earned abroad.
Working students (no longer applicable starting with Project 2026): Students who, prior to their stay abroad, have been continuously employed for at least six months from January to June (if the semester starts in August) or June to November (if the semester starts in January), with a monthly net income of more than 450 euros and less than 850 euros (on average). The employment must not be continued during the stay abroad (this includes, among other things, remote work, online work, and paid leave); however, the employment contract may be put on hold. Students who are self-employed, as well as students enrolled in a dual/part-time degree program with a fixed salary, are unfortunately not eligible for a top-up.
Students with a disability: Students with a degree of disability (GdB) of 20 or higher, or students with a documented disability that results in additional financial needs.
Students with a chronic illness (physical or mental): Provided that the chronic illness results in additional financial needs.
Students studying as parents: If at least one child is brought along for the entire duration of the stay abroad.
Financial assistance for participants with fewer opportunities:
The following students may submit an application for reimbursement of actual expenses for a study abroad program and a preparatory trip to assess local conditions in preparation for a mobility program that has already been approved:
Students with a disability: Students with a degree of disability (GdB) of 20 or higher, or students with a documented disability that results in additional financial needs while abroad.
Students with a chronic illness: Provided that the chronic illness results in additional financial needs abroad.
Students studying as parents: If at least one child is brought along for the entire duration of the stay abroad.
Applications for Erasmus+ top-ups and actual cost support must be submitted to the International Office.
Acknowledgments
Study abroad
Academic credit for completed coursework abroad is granted via the Online Learning Agreement (program countries) / Learning Agreement (partner countries). This must be signed by the student, the chair of the examination board for the respective degree program, and the partner university before the start of the study abroad period.
Internship abroad
Hochschule Offenburg recognizes academic achievements successfully completed abroad. The prerequisite for this is that a “Learning Agreement” was signed before the start of the study abroad period.
The “University Certificate of Internship Documentation,” which is provided by KOOR - Erasmus Services BW after the internship abroad, must be signed by the same person who signed the “Learning Agreement” before the start of the internship.
Online language learning
All participants in a long-term mobility program under the Erasmus+ program are encouraged to take the OLS language test in the language of instruction and to use the language courses available on the OLS platform to improve their foreign language skills. Participants will receive further information from the International Office after being selected.
Reporting requirement
In order to receive the full amount of the Erasmus+ grant, all grant recipients must complete the survey provided by the European Commission within 30 days of receiving it and also submit an experience report to Hochschule Offenburg within 30 days of the end of their stay. Only then will the final installment of the grant be paid out.
Student Mobility - Incoming Students in KA171
Eligible to participate are all students who are regularly enrolled at a participating partner university of Hochschule Offenburg and with which a valid Inter-Institutional Agreement exists for exchange in their field of study and degree cycle. Funding is available for up to a maximum of 12 months per degree cycle (bachelor's degree/master's degree/PhD). Currently, Erasmus+ funding is only available to students at the German Jordanian University in Jordan. Please note that Erasmus+ funding is subject to the availability of funds, and there is no entitlement to funding or to funding from a specific project year.
Study Abroad Programs
Erasmus+ students from our partner universities participating in KA171 do not pay tuition fees at Hochschule Offenburg. They pay only administrative fees.
To participate in an exchange funded through KA171, students must submit an application at their home university, which is also responsible for selecting the students to be nominated. Students can obtain information on the application process, including deadlines and required documents, from their home university or find it in the Hochschule Offenburg fact sheet. After being nominated by the partner university, students will receive an application link from the International Office at Hochschule Offenburg, along with further information regarding the application process.
Funding from the 2024 and 2025 projects amounts to 900 EUR per month for incoming students from Jordan (Region 3: Southern Mediterranean). Please note that Erasmus+ funding is subject to the availability of funds, and there is no entitlement to funding or to funding from a specific project year.
Travel allowance
All participants in KA171 will receive a travel allowance.

Students studying as parents: If at least one child is taken along for the entire duration of the stay abroad.
Applications for Erasmus+ top-ups and actual cost support must be submitted to the International Office.
Health Insurance
Anyone who wants to study in Germany must have health insurance. Without this health insurance coverage, students cannot enroll in a program or apply for a residence permit at the Foreigners’ Registration Office.
Please check whether the health insurance coverage provided by your home country is recognized in Germany or whether you must enroll in a German statutory health insurance plan (travel insurance does not provide sufficient coverage for a study stay in Germany).
Online language learning
All participants in a long-term mobility program under the Erasmus+ program will receive a link to the OLS language test to improve their foreign language skills.
Reporting requirement
All grant recipients must complete the survey provided by the European Commission within 10 days of receiving it and submit a report on their experience within 30 days of their stay at Hochschule Offenburg.
You can find all relevant information regarding your stay at the University, academic support services, and the course catalog in the section for exchange students.
Staff Mobility - Outgoing in KA131 and KA171
The Erasmus+ Staff Mobility program distinguishes between teaching assignments (STA) and professional development assignments (STT). Through Hochschule Offenburg, teaching assignments at partner universities, as well as job shadowing, work experience placements, and participation in workshops, seminars, or staff training weeks (organized by a university) are available.
Requirements
Staff mobility for teaching purposes (STA)
The European Commission’s requirements for staff mobility for teaching purposes (STA; Staff Teaching Assignments) stipulate that
the duration of the grant must be between two (Erasmus+ program countries) and five (Erasmus+ partner countries/KA171) consecutive working days and two months,
the content of the mobility must be directly related to the objectives of the Erasmus+ program,
a Mobility Agreement must be agreed upon in advance with the home institution and the host institution,
a report on the activities carried out as part of the staff mobility must be prepared afterward (Beneficiary Module), and
a confirmation from the host institution must be obtained upon completion of the stay.
The teaching load is eight hours per week. A combination of teaching and continuing education is possible, in which case the teaching load is reduced to four hours per week.
Staff mobility for training and professional development purposes (STT)
The European Commission’s requirements for staff mobility for training purposes (STT; Staff Training) stipulate that
the duration of the grant must be between two (Erasmus+ program countries) and five (Erasmus+ partner countries/KA171) consecutive working days and two months,
the content of the mobility must be directly related to the objectives of the Erasmus+ program,
a Mobility Agreement must be agreed upon in advance with the home institution and the host institution,
a report on the activities carried out as part of the staff mobility must be prepared afterward (Beneficiary Module), and
a confirmation from the host institution must be obtained upon completion of the stay.
Selection Criteria
Hochschule Offenburg’s selection criteria for Erasmus+ staff mobility:
Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis
Submission of the application form in full and by the deadline
Strategically sound mobility project
Sufficient knowledge of the local language or English language skills is available for the mobility project (minimum B2 level)
STA: Exchange placements must be agreed upon in the Inter-Institutional Agreement
Willingness to give a brief report on the visit is required (e.g., as part of the Erasmus+ Days in October)
If there is more than one staff mobility per year, additional stays will be prioritized for ChallengeEU organizations
Applications are selected using the dual-review principle
Acknowledgments
Recognition of staff mobility is provided through the crediting of working hours and, upon request, through the issuance of a certificate of participation.
Travel and living expenses
Under the Erasmus+ program, travel and living expenses are reimbursed at a flat rate based on so-called unit costs. If the actual costs are lower than this amount, the difference remains with the grantee and is subject to taxation.
Travel distance is calculated using the European Commission’s distance calculator. The “travel distance” corresponds to the distance between Hochschule Offenburg and the destination. The “amount” corresponds to the subsidy for the round trip to and from the destination.

Additional financial support for participants with fewer opportunities
Participants with fewer opportunities may submit an application for actual expenses for stays abroad. In addition, it is possible to apply for a preparatory trip to assess local conditions in preparation for a mobility program that has already been approved (preparatory trips are generally intended for potential grant recipients with a disability and their accompanying persons who need to assess local conditions to determine whether a longer stay is feasible). Applications for actual cost funding are submitted to the IO.
Participants with fewer opportunities include:
Participants with a disability with a disability rating of 20 or higher or a documented disability that results in additional financial needs while abroad
Participants with a chronic illness that results in additional financial needs abroad
Participants with a child or children
The final calculation of the grant is performed by the IO and is specified in the Grant Agreement. There is no guarantee of financial support.
