Module: Software Threat Modelling Workshop

Identifying Threats Early: Threat Modeling for Software Developers, Software Architects, and Product Owners

What value does the event offer?

Threats are identified as early as the design phase, even before any code is written.
This helps avoid costly rework.
Modeling the software and data flows provides a clearer picture of the system.
Even non-security experts on the team can understand where potential vulnerabilities lie.
The earlier a problem is detected, the less expensive it is to fix.
According to studies, fixing bugs during operation is often 10 times more expensive than doing so during the planning phase.
Decisions regarding encryption, authentication, role models, etc., are based on concrete threat scenarios rather than gut feelings.
Threat models provide valuable artifacts for audits, e.g., in the context of ISO 27001, GDPR, NIST, etc.
They support the traceability of security measures.

Description / Contents
Threat modeling is a proven analysis technique for identifying potential vulnerabilities and risks in the early development phase of applications or services. Implementing security measures early in the software lifecycle enables a “Secure by Design” approach, which not only enhances security but can also reduce development costs.
