Is sustainability possible without democracy? – Is education, power, and sustainability? Sustainability does not fail because of technology. It fails because of a lack of education, weak institutions, and the loss of democratic values.

At the fourth Black Forest Sustainability Forum in 2026, an uncomfortable thesis will be put forward: Without education, there is no peace. Without democracy, there is no prosperity. Without both, there is no sustainable development.

The focus will be on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions)—not in the abstract, but as pressing local and future challenges for society, the economy, and businesses.

What does this mean for innovation capacity, social stability, and long-term economic success?

And what responsibilities do leaders, institutions, and education systems bear?

Look forward to incisive keynote speeches, a thought-provoking panel discussion, and an open exchange among peers. To wrap things up: a get-together with finger food and drinks.
