Orange Days

Hate, digital violence, and targeted disinformation threaten freedom of expression and hinder equal participation in the digital space. People who are targeted with hostility and intimidation because of their gender or other characteristics are often particularly affected. But where does digital violence begin, what forms does it take, and how can we counter it?

Using concrete case studies, this presentation explores who might be affected—whether in academic settings, in the workplace, or in public. Participants will learn how to protect themselves from digital attacks and what steps they can take if they are affected themselves or witness digital violence.

Kathi Heffe is a psychologist specializing in legal psychology and a systemic counselor at HateAid. Her professional focus is on sexualized digital violence, particularly image-based violence and non-consensual sexualized deepfakes.

HateAid is a nonprofit organization dedicated to human rights in the digital space. It supports victims of digital violence through counseling and legal assistance and is committed to raising awareness among policymakers and the general public about digital violence and its consequences.
