Zukunft.Lab.Schwarzwald: Resilient and Climate-Neutral Energy Systems—From Buildings and Businesses to Municipalities
How can the energy transition be successfully implemented in buildings, neighborhoods, and municipalities, and how can energy systems be designed to be both resilient and climate-neutral? The IEN, EEW, and E2G research groups at the Institute for Sustainable Energy Systems (INES) will provide answers to these questions at the Zukunft.Lab.Schwarzwald visitor series event on November 26, 2026, at Hochschule Offenburg.
The three research groups are developing innovative solutions for resilient and climate-neutral energy systems: from buildings and neighborhoods to microgrids and the municipal level. The Intelligent Energy Networks (IEN) research group develops data- and model-based methodologies for the analysis, simulation, and optimization of intelligent energy networks and decentralized energy structures. The Energy Systems and Energy Economics (EEW) research group develops scenarios and decision-making tools for stakeholders in industry, local governments, and politics, and addresses the strategic integration of energy management processes within organizations. The Energy-Efficient Building Technology (E2G) research group conducts research on energy-efficient building technology and, using simulations and artificial intelligence methodologies, develops smart operating strategies and energy concepts for buildings and neighborhoods, particularly for the integration of heat pumps and district heating networks.
During the visit, participants will gain an on-site insight into the labs of the RIZ Energie - Research and Innovation Center of Energy Technology and learn how application-oriented research supports companies and municipalities on their path toward a secure and sustainable energy supply. Afterward, there will be time for personal discussions with the researchers.
Who Should Attend
The event is aimed at entrepreneurs, decision-makers, energy and facility managers, representatives of municipalities and municipal utilities, innovation managers, researchers, and anyone else interested.
