Distributed EV communication, charge scheduling and consensus based control for EV charging network

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) as a smart mode of transportation is continuing to grow, as it can be significantly cleaner than combustion engines, if renewable energy sources are used. Different countries have already developed roadmaps to replace the traditional transportation network (i.e. one that run on petroleum byproducts) with the EV energy network. The EV charging infrastructure commonly comprises EVs, charging stations, distributed energy sources and communication infrastructure. It shall be extended by an IT infrastructure, i.e. an integrated communication system for optimum trade-off between cost, energy consumption, and real-time capability. For this, the application of optimized Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) networks shall be envisaged, which shall encompass the whole protocol stack, i.e. from advanced physical layers to highly integrated application layer to allow complete, efficient and flexible system integration.
