After a welcome from Miriam Bartels of the University’s pepperMINT Foundation, the students moved on to the various activities. In the MakerSpace, under the guidance of Patrick Hog, the students were able to design a personalized name tag with RGB lighting, solder the necessary electronic circuitry, and then assemble everything. In the XR/Games Lab with Prof. Dr. Daniel Görlich, Lukas Meyer, and Leonie Hiegel, they got to try out virtual reality games with and without a smartphone and build their own Cardboard viewer to watch 360-degree and virtual reality videos. And at Campus West, they discovered the fascination of applied robotics—a technology of the future—with Jennifer Blöchle. During a hands-on session, they also had the opportunity to get involved themselves and work with both a collaborative robot and an industrial robot to complete simple tasks, such as palletizing.

The girls were enthusiastic about everything they did, and perhaps this experience will motivate them to pursue vocational training or a degree in fields such as technology, computer science, engineering, or the natural sciences.
