In the third group stage match on Saturday afternoon, Team Magma first faced the reigning world champion, FC Portugal. As in the first group stage, the Offenburg team was able to decisively defeat their longtime rival. This time, the final score was 6–0.

Afterward, Magma faced Apollo3D for the first time at this year’s RoboCup. Against the previously dominant team from China, the final score was 0–3.

Despite this loss, Magma advanced to tomorrow’s semifinals as the second-place finisher in Group H. As expected, the team will face Dionysus again starting at 9 a.m. local time (2 a.m. German time). The strong Chinese team won Group G with two wins, six points, and a 7–0 goal differential. Magma’s record against Dionysus in the current RoboCup has been even so far (a 2–0 victory in the preliminary round, a 0–3 loss in the second group stage). So it won’t be easy to advance to the World Championship final for the ninth time in a row. “But we’ll fight,” announced team leader Klaus Dorer. In the second semifinal, Apollo3D and the Solidworkers (both from China) will face off.
