Open Campus once again offers hands-on science and a relaxed student life

On Saturday, June 20, starting at 2 p.m., anyone interested can experience Hochschule Offenburg and its fascinating projects firsthand.

A diverse program of infotainment covering technology, business, and media awaits visitors of all ages, showcasing the region’s innovative potential. From 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the University’s four departments and corporate partners—including Meiko, nagarro, hansgrohe, Badische Stahlwerke, Printus, and BCT Technology—will offer numerous interactive stations, open labs, and information on academic programs. Among other things, visitors can compete against Sweaty, the soccer-playing robot, in a penalty shootout; test out new offerings in the field of sustainable mobility, including test drives; build their own electric motor; take off in the techniker Krankenkasse flight simulator, participate in an ideas competition focused on logistics, or try out e-sports games and classic arcade machines. For the youngest visitors, there are various play and craft activities. In addition to all these exciting insights, there will be plenty of time to exchange ideas with university staff, companies, and visitors—including numerous former students of Hochschule Offenburg who will be gathering at the Open Campus.

The stage program also features a panel discussion on the topic “Stronger Together: How We Shape the Future of Our Region,” a lecture by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Seitz titled “AI—Dumb or Smart?,” a university quiz followed by an awards ceremony, and a Science Slam where professors present scientific concepts through engaging stories. The university orchestra will provide musical entertainment throughout the day.

In the evening, the blues-rock band Daddy Dirty from Lahr, the concert highlight “Sound, Pattern, Attitude—Arrangement, Improvisation, sound art, and performance—featuring students, musicians, and sound artists at the intersection of electronic and acoustic music under the direction of Markus Birkle—as well as a DJ set with beats and a light projection on the building’s facade, will transform the campus into a large open-air dance floor.

Admission is free. Several food trucks on campus will offer treats, coffee, and refreshing drinks. 

 

How to get there:

By bike:

- Ride your own bike or a Nextbike (requires an account) to the University

- Bike parking areas and a Nextbike station are available on campus

By train and/or public transit:

- If applicable, arrive at the Offenburg train station

- Take the S8 bus line to the “University” stop

or

- Take a Nextbike from the train station mobility station (requires an account) to the University

By car:

- Parking available at the university parking lot (limited capacity)
