Team Schluckspecht Sets a New College Record
Thanks to the mechanics’ hard work, the S8 was the first to hit the track this Friday morning. “Overall, we completed three great runs with the S8 today—all better than with its predecessor, the S6,” team member Noah Schnebel said happily afterward. The absolute highlight was the new university record of 736 kilometers on one kilowatt-hour. The team spent the rest of the day further optimizing the prototype. With this, everyone involved plans to go on the offensive tomorrow in the next two of the six qualifying runs and set yet another new record.
In the afternoon, the S5 also began its qualifying runs. The Urban Concept’s first run had to be aborted due to problems with the spark plug. The second run went well. And thanks to adjustments to the control system, a different strategy, and a driver change, the team was able to improve even further in the third run. The result: 188 kilometers on one liter of fuel. This is already an improvement over last year and a new team-internal track record at the Silesia Ring. Tomorrow, the goal is to achieve the best result of over 200 kilometers on one liter.
The thermometer read 32 degrees Celsius today. However, the driver cooling system is working very well, much to the drivers’ satisfaction. And since the Prototype drove early in the morning and the Urban Concept in the afternoon, the temperature was manageable for all drivers.
So all team members were able to relax and enjoy a barbecue together in the evening. Tomorrow, both cars are set to make another leap forward.
