Everything You Need to Know
Course Content
You’ll combine traditional Maschinenbau knowledge with the tools of the digital world. The program is designed so that you can immediately apply theoretical concepts in real-world projects. We combine self-directed learning (asynchronous), interactive online formats (synchronous), and hands-on in-person sessions, such as in real-world labs and at industry partners.
The common thread throughout your studies:
Digital Toolkit: You’ll master complex simulation technology, virtual engineering, programming, and AI applications.
Intelligent Systems: You’ll learn how machines learn to think and communicate.
Project Focus: In the first two semesters, you’ll work on two major projects—often directly with industry partners or on your own research questions.
Science & Ethics: You will develop a keen awareness of the responsibilities that modern technology entails.
Perspectives
After graduation, you’ll be exactly the kind of forward-thinking professional that companies are looking for: you speak the language of Maschinenbau while also mastering the ins and outs of digitalization.
Your fields of application:
Research and development in industrial sectors such as automotive engineering, Maschinenbau, and automation
Engineering and consulting services for digital systems
Research and teaching at universities and research institutes
Entry into doctoral programs
Management and development roles in the field of digitalized product development

Highlights from the study program
Flexible and interconnected
You decide how your master’s program fits into your life. The blended learning format combines interactive online modules with targeted in-person sessions at our campuses. This gives you the freedom to balance your studies, job, family, and other plans. You’ll benefit from the combined expertise of a strong network of five universities in Baden-Württemberg: Albstadt-Sigmaringen, Esslingen, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, and Hochschule Offenburg. Together, we’ll open up new paths for your career in the digital industry.
Here’s how you’ll learn in the blended learning format:
Maximum flexibility: You’ll study from anywhere and manage your time independently. Online office hours and exercises will support you in this. We’ll coordinate in-person sessions individually with you to fit your work schedule—such as early in the morning or in the evening.
Targeted interaction: On a total of 5 Fridays, you’ll meet your fellow students and instructors in person. One in-person day will take place at each of the following Universities: Albstadt-Sigmaringen (2nd semester), Esslingen (1st semester), Karlsruhe (2nd semester), Mannheim (2nd semester), and Hochschule Offenburg (1st semester).
Customized Focus: You design your project work according to your interests. Choose a topic from the Universities, develop your own ideas, or address a specific problem from your company.
Flexible Exams: You complete your coursework—including term papers, practical projects, lab work, and projects—mostly at your own pace and from any location. You’ll travel to Karlsruhe for just two exam days during your entire program (one after the first semester and one after the second). You’ll coordinate the oral exam individually with your professors, together with your fellow students.
A degree program of the THE bLÄNDed learning Initiative of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
