Black Forest Formula Team
At Hochschule Offenburg, more than 20 students from various disciplines work together every year to develop a fully electric race car—from the initial idea to its debut on the track.
Since 2019, we’ve been building each vehicle from the ground up. From the initial design through construction and manufacturing to testing and optimization, every component is the result of genuine teamwork. To tackle the various challenges effectively, our project is divided into the areas of mechanics, marketing, and electrical engineering.
What drives us is more than just technology. It’s the combination of passion, responsibility, and the drive to work together to create something that ultimately has to prove itself under real-world conditions. That’s exactly what defines our team: We learn, develop, and grow with every new vehicle.
What is Formula Student?
Formula Student is an international engineering competition for students. Teams from around the world compete against each other in various disciplines—such as acceleration, endurance, and maneuverability—with race cars they have designed themselves. In addition to performance, the competition also evaluates how well a vehicle is designed, built, and presented. Safety is always the top priority.
Vision
Our vision is to develop innovative race cars as an interdisciplinary team, to push ourselves to new heights together, and to successfully represent Hochschule Offenburg on the international stage.
Electrical Team
The electrical engineering team develops all electrical components and integrates them. This includes not only the components for the powertrain in conjunction with the high-voltage battery, but also the safety logic and shutdown system, which ensures the car operates safely.
Mechanics Team
The team develops, designs, and manufactures all components of the vehicle's chassis, suspension, and aerodynamic systems. In addition to ensuring the most controllable handling possible, ergonomic operation of the vehicle, and the best possible transfer of drive power to the road, safety is the top priority in the development process.
Marketing and Finance Team
The Marketing Team is responsible for the project's external communications. This includes managing sponsors, social media, organizing events, and all activities that raise the team's public profile and ensure it presents itself professionally.
Outlook for 2027
At the end of the 25/26 winter semester, we restructured our project and carefully planned our next steps. As a result, we will not be participating in any competitions during the 2026 season; instead, we will use this time to further develop our vehicle both technically and organizationally.
With a clear development plan in place, we are now working toward the 2027 season. Our goal is to take to the track in the summer of 2027 with a high-performance and competitive race car. At the same time, our team continues to grow as we recruit new members in the coming semester, and we are working full steam ahead on our project.
More Information
Our Team
Behind our project is a dedicated team of over 20 students from Hochschule Offenburg, representing up to nine different bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. We are united by the common goal of developing and building a high-performance race car and successfully competing in races.
What makes our team special is that many of us contribute to the project far beyond the required course credits. With a lot of dedication, team spirit, and enthusiasm for technology, we work together to bring our race car to the track—from the initial idea to the finished product.

Join the team
Would you like to join our team? At the beginning of every semester, you can submit an application through Moodle. Alternatively, you can contact us by email at any time. There are opportunities to get involved in various areas, including marketing, finance, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Depending on your department, your participation may also count toward a required elective course, with varying numbers of credits. If you’re interested in teamwork, technology, and a hands-on project, we look forward to hearing from you.
History and Achievements
The first race cars were built at Hochschule Offenburg as early as 2008 and 2012. With the BFFT2025, the project was revitalized and moved into a new phase of development. Today, we’re building on that foundation and working on the next generation of our race car, the BFFT2027—with the goal of continuing the team’s legacy.
