The Institute for Advanced Biomechanics and Motion Studies (IBMS) at Hochschule Offenburg is a research institute focused on human movement and physical stress. At the IBMS, researchers investigate how people move, how movements can be improved, and which technologies can support these efforts.

A key focus is on analyzing complex movement sequences using modern methodologies—ranging from biomechanical measurement systems and wearable sensors to the analysis of large datasets. Among other things, the goal is to better understand fall risks, optimize joint loads, and improve human-technology interaction and athletic performance.

Another important area is the development of motion analysis methods outside of traditional laboratory settings, such as through wearable sensors and new data analysis technologies. Research at the IBMS thus provides a valuable foundation for applications in everyday life, health, rehabilitation, sports, and industry.

The IBMS works closely with partners from the business, healthcare, and technology sectors and actively supports early-career researchers—whether through bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, or doctoral theses, internships, or joint research projects.

Auf dem PC-Bildschirm ist die Software Theia (Bewegungsanalyse) zu sehen. Die Videos der unterschiedlichen kameraperspektiven sind nebeneinander abgebildet, es ist jeweils ein Skelett auf dem Sprinter abgebildet und rechts ist eine 3D-Ansicht des Skeletts. Die aufgenommenen Daten werden vom Studienleiter gesichtet.

Die Radfahrerin fährt auf dem Ergometer, der Studienleiter gibt ein Zeichen, dass die Messung gut verläuft. Auf dem PC-Bildschirm und dem großen Bildschirm im Hintergrund sieht man live die Abbildung des Motion Capture Systems, auf dem iPad sieht man das Protokoll, das gerade mit dem Ergometer gefahren wird.

Im Hintergrund geht der Proband auf dem Laufband, die Leinwand zeigt eine Waldlandschaft und die Graphen für die vertikale Bodenreaktionskraft des rechten und linken Beins. Der Proband ist über einen Harnisch gesichert. Im Vordergrund sitzt der Studienleiter vor 3 Bildschirmen und beobachtet die Messung. Auf den beiden linken Bildschirmen ist die Software zu sehen, die das Laufband steuert und ebenfalls die Landschaft mit den Graphen. Auf dem rechten Bildschirm ist die Benutzeroberfläche von Vicon (Motion Capture System) zu sehen.
