What is the OPAC?

All items in the libraries of Hochschule Offenburg can be searched in the OPAC. In addition, you can access the collections of external libraries via the "interlibrary loan" menu item.

Hochschule Offenburg - OPAC (German)

Hochschule Offenburg - OPAC (English)

What functions does the OPAC offer?

Search / Account Features:

  • Search the entire collection of the Offenburg and Gengenbach Campus Libraries

  • Renew your checked-out books

  • Reserve books you have on loan

  • Order books from the Offenburg Library collection

  • Suggest books for the library

interlibrary loan:

  • Order books from other libraries

  • Order journal articles from other libraries or check whether an electronic journal is licensed for Hochschule Offenburg.

Further information:

  • OPAC Login

  • Loan periods and fees

  • Interlibrary loan of books and articles

What is the SuperLiteraturSuche?

The SuperLiteraturSuche searches millions of full-text sources from journals and books licensed by Hochschule Offenburg, making them immediately available to you electronically.

Requirement: Your computer must be logged into the university network. If you are off campus, you must first establish a VPN connection. Alternatively, you can use Shibboleth; that is, as soon as you access a full-text article, select the institutional login via Hochschule Offenburg—specific to each publisher.

How do I access the full text?

Clicking the "Go to Full Text" button will take you to the publisher's website, where you can select the full text. Please note that you will need to use the VPN or Shibboleth.

Clicking the “Check Availability” button will verify whether the full text is freely accessible. If not, you can place an interlibrary loan request (for a fee) via the OPAC.

Still haven't found anything relevant for you?

In that case, you should consult a more specialized database. Search the Database Information System (DBIS) for a suitable database and conduct another search.

If necessary, also use English search terms, as the SuperLiteraturSuche focuses on publishers from the English-speaking world.

Please note that the SuperLiteraturSuche does not include all sources.

The following are searched:

  • Library catalog

  • Articles and chapters from several thousand e-journals and e-books

Some important sources are not included for various reasons:

  • Beck Online

  • WISO

  • Scopus

  • Statistical sources

What is DBIS?

High-quality databases offering literature are available for almost every subject. You can access a database through the Database Information System (DBIS).

You can find important databases related to the departments and degree programs here:

Electrical Engineering, Medical Engineering and Informatics

Media

Mechanical and Process Engineering

Business Engineering

Use the search bar to find additional databases. Please use general search terms.

There are also databases for standards and statistics:

Standards, Technical Guidelines, Patents

Statistics

Depending on your browser’s security settings, a certificate may be required. Please first click “I understand the risk” and add the exception.

What is ZDB?

The libraries subscribe to the most important journals in their respective fields. Older volumes are collected and, in some cases, bound. Individual journal issues—with the exception of the current issue—can be borrowed for one week.

Here you will find an overview of the available journal subscriptions and journal volumes at the Offenburg Campus Library and the Gengenbach Campus Library. In many cases, under the heading “Additional Title Information” in the “Online Edition” section, you’ll find a link to the journal’s electronic edition, which includes links to the publisher or the full text. There you’ll find additional information about the journal, often in the form of an archive. If a license for the online edition is available, it’s worth checking the Electronic Journal Library (see below).

The Journal Database (ZDB) lists all journals held in German libraries.

What is the EZB?

You can find an overview of all journals available online in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB). The EZB lists both journals licensed for Hochschule Offenburg and those that are freely available on the Internet.

Pay attention to the traffic light colors:

green

= open access

yellow

= accessible to members of Hochschule Offenburg (= accessible via the university network)

yellow and red

= some of the issues are available to members of Hochschule Offenburg

red

= not accessible

Open Access

Open Access publishing is becoming increasingly widespread. The advantages of rapid and unrestricted access, as well as the significantly increased visibility of scholarly publications, are winning over both researchers and funding agencies.

What are the conditions at our University? Has the University joined the DEAL agreements with Springer and Wiley? Learn more about the specifics regarding Open Access at our University on these pages.

Are there any funding opportunities?

Are you planning to publish an article in an open-access journal? Apply to have your publication costs covered by Hochschule Offenburg’s open-access publication fund.

From 2017 to mid-2023, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts provided funding for the publication of articles in open access. Since then, the university has established its own publication fund.

Guidelines, eligibility requirements, and the grant application can be found on the intranet under the “University Library” service area (or search for “Publication Fund”).

Before submitting a manuscript, please verify the eligibility of your publication for funding so that the funding acknowledgment can be entered correctly.

Why Are Standardized Identifiers Needed? "ORCID," "GRID," and "Ringgold"

To unambiguously attribute publications to a specific person or institution, unique identifiers and clearly defined designations are required. Ultimately, the research output of the entire University can only be fully represented if attribution is governed by unique identifiers.

1. Author Identification:

  • ORCID manages author identifiers. The university administration recommends that university members register with ORCID. To register, you will need to provide your name, academic title, and affiliation. Please be sure to enter “Offenburg University of Applied Sciences” or the IDs listed below.

  • The Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND) records authors’ data as soon as a publication is included in the catalog of the German National Library (DNB). Records in ORCID can be enriched with the GND ID to display the publications listed in the DNB catalog within ORCID (instructions for “claiming”). Look up your personal GND ID in the GND Explorer (-> “Identifiers” -> “GND”)

2. Identification of the University:

  • GRID (Global Research Identifier Database) lists research organizations.
GRID ID for Hochschule Offenburg: grid.440974.a

  • ROR (Research Organization Registry) is a directory of research institutions.
    Hochschule Offenburg’s ROR ID: https://ror.org/03zh5eq96

  • Ringgold is responsible for administering institutions in the publishing sector.
    Hochschule Offenburg’s Ringgold ID: 64369

  • Please use only these designations. They apply to both the Offenburg campus and the Gengenbach campus:
    In the German context:
Hochschule Offenburg – University of Technology, Business and Media | Abbreviation: Hochschule Offenburg
    In the international context:
Offenburg University of Applied Sciences | Abbreviation: Offenburg University of Applied Sciences

3. Official names of the institutes and their Ringgold IDs:

  • Affective and Cognitive Institute (589825)

  • Institute for Sustainable Energy Systems | Institute of Sustainable Energy Systems (565422)

  • Institute for Machine Learning and Analytics (589826)

  • Offenburg Institute of Sustainable Silicate Research (589827)

  • Institute for Trade and Innovation (589828)

  • Institute for Unmanned Aerial Systems (589829)

  • Institute for Reliable Embedded Systems and Communication Electronics (589830)

  • Peter Osypka Institute for Medizintechnik (589831)

Organization & Legal Matters

Team
Organization

The Hochschule Offenburg’s information resources are provided by two libraries:

The library on the Offenburg campus provides university members with literature related to the departments of Elektrotechnik/Informationstechnik (EMI), Media (M), and Mechanical and Process Engineering (M+V). The library offers its on-site collection for open access in the reading room. Books available for checkout are provided via a storage area. The library has a collection of 60,000 books, films, and academic publications.

The library on the Gengenbach campus serves the Department of Economics (W). The entire collection of approximately 20,000 items is available on open shelves; the majority of these items are available for loan.

A substantial collection of e-books (accessible via OPAC) and literature databases (accessible via DBIS) rounds out the libraries’ offerings.

The libraries are primarily geared toward the needs of the professors and students at Hochschule Offenburg; external users may use the libraries upon presentation of a valid ID card.
