After completing his studies in International Management and earning his Ph.D. in 2005 on the topic “Index Effects on the European Capital Market” at ESCP, a private, state-recognized European business school in Paris, Oxford, and Berlin, Stephan Schmidt-Tank spent a total of more than ten years as a consultant and nearly 15 years in senior management positions. During this time, his career path took him to Hong Kong, London, and Johannesburg. He began his career at McKinsey & Company and subsequently held several senior leadership appointments at Barclays in England and South Africa. There, for example as part of his role as Chief Operating Officer at the investment bank, he gained extensive experience with change processes in large corporations and with leading interdisciplinary teams in an international context.

He then led the specialist team for financial services providers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) at Amazon Web Services. In this role, he supported numerous companies in EMEA with their digital transformation. In 2021, he became a partner at McKinsey & Company before going independent two years later as a senior advisor and working as a freelance startup mentor.

Starting in 2025, he also gained teaching experience at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart, the ESCP Business University in Berlin, and the London Business School. There, he shares the international practical experience he has gained over more than 25 years of study and career with his students. In the coming years, he will now do so at the department of Business Administration at Hochschule Offenburg.
