The Blind Spot of the Energy Transition – How AccuVice Makes Batteries Smarter

A startup is bringing precise diagnoses from the lab to clinical practice.

Whether in electric vehicles, solar storage systems, or industrial facilities, batteries are indispensable today. Yet in many systems, it remains unclear how quickly they degrade, what performance reserves they have, and when critical conditions are reached.

Four researchers at Hochschule Offenburg wanted to change exactly that. So they founded the startup AccuVice.

For more than ten years, they had been researching battery models, aging mechanisms, and digital diagnostic methods. Building on this foundation, they developed a patented method that calculates the actual condition of batteries from voltage signals—faster, more resource-efficient, and more precise than conventional methods.

For companies, this means tangible benefits: predictable maintenance, more reliable investments, and fewer outages in critical energy systems.

At the same time, the technology contributes to sustainability. When batteries can be used longer and monitored more efficiently, resource consumption and environmental impact decrease. Thanks to cloud-based scalability, the solution can be deployed from individual storage units to entire vehicle fleets.

AccuVice exemplifies Hochschule Offenburg’s approach to technology transfer: research is not confined to the lab but is translated into marketable applications. This is how innovations emerge precisely where science and practice converge—right in the heart of the region.
