Education3D
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
“Education3D” is a cross-border 3D printing program for special education as well as general and vocational education. The project brings together schools, universities, and special education institutions to develop accessible and customizable tactile learning materials using 3D printing. To this end, inclusive schools and special education institutions are equipped with 3D printers, teachers are trained in the use of the technology, and a bilingual database of lesson plans and teaching concepts is being developed.
Through joint workshops, exhibitions, and competitions, a cross-border network is emerging that promotes the exchange of knowledge and best practices. In the “Edu3D” project, Hochschule Offenburg focuses on providing technical consulting on 3D printing and production-ready design, creating 3D models, and designing and conducting practice-oriented workshops for students and educators. In addition, the University supports the implementation and use of 3D printers in the partner institutions and assists with their sustainable integration into everyday educational practice.
Target Audiences
Education 3D is aimed at various target groups from the fields of education, professional practice, and administration who are interested in the effective use of 3D printing in an inclusive context or who would like to actively help shape it.
Special Education
Special education teachers are at the heart of the project. They are supported in the development and use of relevant tactile models for the classroom, particularly for teaching students with visual impairments. The models created as part of the project are tested, adapted for educational use, and made available for free download on the project website. The goal is to provide teachers with practical materials that can be used immediately in the classroom.
General Education and the Workplace
Education 3D is also aimed at students and educational professionals, both from schools and from workshops for people with disabilities. The project demonstrates how 3D printing can be integrated into educational and work contexts—for example, to customize learning and work aids or to support inclusive work processes.
Cross-Border Exchange
Another focus is on teachers and students with a German-French background. Through joint workshops, exchange programs, and cross-border activities, Education 3D provides a space for collaboration, shifting perspectives, and shared learning across national borders.
Consulting
In addition, the project is aimed at representatives of government agencies, school districts, and educational institutions who are planning to purchase 3D printers or evaluating the use of this technology. Education 3D offers advice and guidance in this area—ranging from educational applications to technical questions and organizational aspects.
