From generation to trading electricity: ECM students visit EnBW in Karlsruhe

On 29 Nov 2013, the first semester students of ECM got the opportunity
to visit the large power plants of EnBW in Karlsruhe and then got to
know the trading department to see how the electricity is sold at at the
power market and how short-term dispatching works.

At the power plant sited next to the river Rhine, the students could take a closer look at one gas-fired combined cycle block and a running hard coal-fired power
block which also delivers district heating to the city. Another hard coal block of 920 MW will start operation in 2014. At EnBW Trading, dispatchers and traders explained their daily tasks behind the dozens of screens that display important market and technical information.
