On December 2, 2025, Dr. Maximilian Gießler was awarded the Koblenz Region University Prize for his outstanding dissertation. Presented by the Business and Science Alliance (Wirtschafts- und Wissenschaftsallianz, WWA) Region Koblenz and the University of Koblenz, the award recognizes scientific excellence with high industrial and social transfer potential.

Dr. Gießler, who has been closely associated with Hochschule Offenburg since 2015 and currently works there as a post-doc, developed a sensor system for the precise recording of kinematic data. This technology provides new insights into the complex interaction between bipedal locomotion and situational loss of balance. The results make a significant contribution to human fall prevention while advancing the development of intelligent, AI-based controls for humanoid robots. The project combines mathematics, sensor technology, robotics, and biomechanics, impressively highlighting the innovative strength and potential of interdisciplinary approaches for practical solutions at Offenburg University.

His dissertation was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kiros Karamanidis (University of Koblenz), PD Dr. Robert Rockenfeller (University of Koblenz), and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Waltersberger (Hochschule Offenburg).
