Learning target / Competences

Note:

The following explanations apply only to master’s theses registered at HSO. Theses registered at UWM are governed by the corresponding regulations valid at UWM.

Objectives and competences:

The master thesis allows the student to demonstrate his or her ability to independently handle a scientific project from the area of process engineering within a limited period of time by means of scientific methods. This includes gathering information from scientific sources, conducting experimental work, critically scrutinising methods and results, writing a scientific thesis, and presenting the work to an audience.

The final thesis is defended by the student by means of an oral presentation of about 15 minutes duration followed by a discussion of about 10 minutes. This discussion also constitutes a final oral examination in which other questions related to the MPE programme may also be asked. The objective is to constitute whether the student has reached master’s level knowledge and conduct. Examiners are all lecturers in the MPE programme present during the presentation of the thesis.

Both the written thesis and the oral presentation are carried out in English language. As a rule, the presentation and discussion are (university) public.
