ECM- Funding for “Heterogenity” Project

The Studienkommission für Hochschuldidaktik (Study Commission for University Didactics), a state government institution, has awarded a generous grant to the ECM program in the context of a larger project called "Heterogeneity as a Chance: Developing and Testing Tutor Support Models."

In the current year 2014, the grant will be spent in two main areas: An innovative self-evaluation project will be launched in the fall semester, and involvement in the EnergyNext simulation game will be expanded.

[Translate to english:] 1) ECM students come from very heterogeneous backgrounds, both in terms of their countries of origin and their previous studies. Before starting the regular ECM course program in October, the new students will be asked for a self-evaluation regarding their strengths and weaknesses and subsequently take a test of their qualifications. Based on the test results, study groups will be organized in the fields of thermal engineering, electrical engineering and energy economics according to students’ needs and to insure long-term learning success.

2) Energy economics is a highly complex system, including many different stakeholders – clients, energy traders, power-plant operators, network providers, policy makers. The web-based simulation game EnergyNext has already been successfully implemented in the ECM curriculum in recent years. To allow more students to gain more hands-on insights into the workings of the energy market, this offer shall be expanded in the future.

As part of the project funding, ECM will be offering tutoring positions to senior ECM students. Tasks will revolve around the development of the ECM test materials. If you are qualified and interested in contributing to quality insurance of the ECM program, please watch out for the job announcement. We look forward to hearing from you!
