Research Cooperation with Pakistan

Traditionally there are a lot of committed and talented students from Pakistan registered in the Graduate School’s fields of study.  This is reason enough for us to take part in the “German-Pakistan research cooperation” bidding procedure of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2012. We would then be able to offer the students projects in cooperation with their native countries.

The Offenburg laboratory for Communications Electronics headed by Prof. Dr. Axel Sikora submitted an application, together with one of the leading Pakistani research and teaching universities, the Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS), the Embedded Systems Laboratory there as well as the Laboratory for Cyber Physical Networks and Systems on the subject “Development of the Energy Autarkic and Autonomous Wireless Sensor System for Real Time Monitoring of Large Scale Waterways (EnA²s²w²)”.

In the next two years sensor and radio systems will be developed with which reliable waterways will be able to be monitored even over long distances and warning systems will be provided with the necessary information. The goal is to develop prototypes which can cover long waterways like the Indus. The project is endowed with 60,000 € and includes funds for journeys to joint workshops and research trips as well as funds for personnel and equipment at both places.
