Organisation of Studies and Credits

  • Module (Content description of the curriculum fields of the study program)
  • Studien- und Prüfungsordnung (Provisions on the formal course of studies and examinations as well as on the conditions for admission to examinations)

If you intend to continue your studies in the next semester, you must complete the re-registration procedure each time.

How to re-register for the next semester

Re-registration is done by paying the required semester fee and any other due fees. You can either have the amounts collected by direct debit, or transfer them yourself. For the direct debit procedure, it is necessary to issue a direct debit authorization via the Campus-Portal. The re-registration then takes place in two steps. First, a mandate must be issued, and in the next step, the corresponding invoice must be assigned to the direct debit order. Students are then immediately re-registered and can download their updated enrollment certificate.

Alternatively, payment can be made by bank transfer. The corresponding payment information is given in the Campus-Portal under the "Payments" tab. Please also note the correct reference for payment listed there, which must be specified so that the payment can be assigned to Offenburg University and to you as student. You will not be re-registered until the amounts have been received in full in the University's account. After that you can download your enrollment certificate in the Campus-Portal.

Re-registration deadline

A specific reregistration period is announced in the university's schedule. Students will also receive an email to their university account at the appropriate time asking them to re-register.

Consequences for not reregistering by the deadline

According to §60 Para. 2 No. 8 and §62 Para. 2 No. 4 of the Landeshochschulgesetz (LHG) of 1 January 2005, students will be disenrolled if they fail to re-register by the deadline.

Don’t forget to re-validate your OSCAR ID

Following re-registration, your student ID card must be re-validated at one of the on-campus validation machines.

An internship, whether compulsory, voluntary or even abroad, is one of the best ways to get a first insight into your future dream job and to gain work experience. Whether part of your studies or not, an internship is always a piece of life experience and helps you build your CV. If you perform well during your internship, you may also be offered a job with the company at a later date. If you want to do an internship, you need to distinguish between a compulsory internship and a voluntary internship. Compulsory internships are a compulsory part of your studies.

Voluntary internship

A voluntary internship during your studies is possible if you are registered as a student at the university during the internship period, have not yet completed your studies and the internship is not required by the study/examination regulations of your degree programme. It makes sense to plan your internship during the semester break or at the end of your studies, as most internships should last at least one month.

Student jobs

In addition to the 120 full days and 240 half days that are permit-free, work as a student assistant can be carried out permit-free and without a time limit. Student jobs are activities that are limited to university-related activities in connection with studies in university-related organisations (e.g. tutorials).  Despite the freedom of consent, the foreigners authority must be involved, as it decides in each individual case whether and to what extent it is a "student job" within the meaning of this regulation. According to §15 para. 1 BeschV (Ordinance on the Employment of Foreigners), no consent is required for this. If time permits, you can also work the full 120 full days or 240 half days as part-time employment.

Regulations for secondary employment and voluntary internships

Since voluntary internships are not a compulsory part of your studies, they are considered to be activities that require approval. In this case, you must contact the Foreigners' Registration Office. According to the Residence Act, foreign students with a residence permit under Section 16 of the Residence Act are allowed to work 120 full days or 240 half days per calendar year under Section 16, Paragraph 3.

Master's thesis in a company

If there is not enough time for internships during your studies, there is still the option of writing your Master's thesis in a company. Many companies are looking for young academics to help them with research and process optimisation. In this way, a practical thesis is often a stepping stone to a career after graduation.

Working abroad

The International Office will be happy to inform you about the possibilities (internship abroad, thesis abroad) of going abroad during your studies.

Offers for external theses can be found in the Moodle course Abschlussarbeiten bei Unternehmen

Contact professors if you are interested in writing an internal thesis at the university.

You will hand in the printed copies of the thesis to the Registrar's Office by the deadline.

As a rule, you will hand in two copies. If you decide to publish your thesis in OPUS, it is sufficient to hand in only one copy.

If you are writing the thesis in a Plus or BB program, you may need to turn in three copies. Discuss this with your supervisor.

OPUS - University publication server of the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences

Only a capacity of 100 people may be calculated for HAL because the current Corona regulation for universities allows a maximum of 100 exam candidates to be present in the same room. There is no indication that this will change by the end of January.

The AStA (General Student Committee) is a student body that takes care of many student concerns. Do you have questions about the HSO, the university's facilities, the campus, life and culture in the city, or even legal matters? The AStA is the right contact! Information - not only for freshmen - in the freshman brochure (under downloads on the AStA page).

Due to the current situation, many students are also facing financial difficulties. Various measures have already been taken in spring 2020 to provide students with additional financial support.

BAföG:

The BAföG regulations have been adapted to the current situation. Students who were previously not eligible for BAföG because their income was too high should check whether it is possible to receive BAföG due to changes in income caused by the pandemic: BAföG-income-situation

According to the BMBF, students who already receive BAföG should also not suffer any financial disadvantages, for example due to pandemic-related cancellations and/or postponements at universities: information for BAföG recipients

Here you will also find general information on BAföG.

You do not receive BAföG and are in financial difficulties due to corona? The BMBF provides bridging aid for students in pandemic-related emergencies. This includes two elements: the KfW student loan and grants distributed through the student unions. Things to know about bridging assitance

Student loan from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW):

If there is a sudden lack of income due to corona, a loan of up to 650 euros per month can be granted through the KfW. This loan is interest-free until December 31, 2021. Foreign students can also apply for the aid. The loan application can be submitted online without any red tape: to the loadn application

Grant for students in acute financial need ("Überbrückungshilfe"):

Students who are in an acute, pandemic-related financial emergency and need immediate assistance can continue to apply for bridging assistance of up to 500 euros per month during the 2021 summer semester. The application must be submitted separately for each month via an online-portal.

FAQs on bridging assistance

Caution. The term "bridging assistance" is often used ambiguously. It actually refers to both elements (KfW loan and acute financial hardship grant), but is often used exclusively in connection with the acute financial hardship grant.

Studierendenwerk emergency fund:

The Studierendenwerk Freiburg (swfr) is not only responsible for paying out the grant in acute financial distress, but also offers the possibility of an interest-free loan for students who have fallen into financial difficulties (maximum 500 euros/month, maximum for 3 months): Studierendenwerks-emergency fund

Upon request, the Studierendenwerk will also be happy to advise you on further possibilities regarding a student loan

Scholarships:

Especially in the current situation, it is worthwhile to check whether a scholarship might also be an option. Information on scholarships can be found at: hs-offenburg.de/stipendien
